Admiral Eric McVadon


Rear Admiral McVadon was the U.S. defense and naval attaché at the American Embassy in Beijing from 1990-1992. He then retired from the Navy and is consulting, researching, writing, and speaking on Asian security affairs, Chinese and Taiwan military matters, and security issues involving China, Taiwan, the Korean Peninsula, Japan, Mongolia, South Asia, and the South China Sea. He works extensively with the U.S. policy and intelligence communities and the Department of Defense, directly and indirectly.

Additionally, Admiral McVadon is a part-time Director of Asia-Pacific Studies for the Institute for Foreign Policy Analysis of Cambridge, Massachusetts, and Washington, D.C. Admiral McVadon also serves as senior consultant for Areté Associates, SAIC, Tera Inc. and other organizations, and he is a non-resident fellow at the Atlantic Council of the United States. His 35 years in the navy include extensive experience in air antisubmarine warfare and politico-military affairs, including service as the NATO and U.S. Sub-Unified Commander in Iceland, Deputy Director for the Defense Mapping Agency, and Deputy Director for Strategy, Plans and Policy, and the Navy Staff.
