Lonnie Henley is a member of the Senior National Intelligence Service in the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI).  He started his intelligence career in the US Army, serving 22 years as a China foreign area officer and military intelligence officer including tours in Korea, at Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), on Army Staff, and in the History Department at West Point.  Upon retiring from the Army he joined the senior civil service as Defense Intelligence Officer for East Asia and then Senior Intelligence Expert for Strategic Warning at DIA.  He left DIA in 2004 to work as a senior analyst with CENTRA Technology, Inc., before joining ODNI in 2006.  In addition to his government position, he teaches Chinese security issues in the Security Studies Program at Georgetown University. 

Mr. Henley was educated at West Point; at Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar; at Columbia University; and at the Joint Military Intelligence College.  He speaks and reads Mandarin Chinese and reads French.  His wife Sara Hanks is a partner in international capital markets with the London and New York-based law firm Clifford Chance LLP.  They live in Alexandria, Virginia.
