U.S.-CHINA POLICY FOUNDATION

PROGRAM ASSOCIATE, Programs & Development Specialist


We hire for both temporary and permanent positions. Terms are negotiable based upon candidate’s experience and expertise.

• B.A. in International Relations, Asian Studies, Chinese, or other significant education related to China
• Travel Experience to Asia and China

Job Description:

• Fund-raising - The program associate conducts research on possible grant opportunities at the Foundation Center, on the internet and with other available resources and produces grant applications for USCPF programs, events and publications.

• Event planning and execution - The program associate organizes Foundation lectures and events as needed. The program associate handles all publicity for the event, catering arrangements, billing, correspondence with speakers, and logistical preparations for the event. The program associate writes a summary of event and posts it on the USCPF website.

• Policy-Makers Seminar and Trip program - The program associate works with a program coordinator to:

• act as liason with Congressional staff
• contact lecturers and construct a lecture series;
• travel to China, accompanying the delegation;
• design, produce and mail a brochure describing the series to potential participants;
• make all room and catering arrangements for each lecture;
• handle all billing and honorariums;
• keep a budget
• prepare a syllabus and reading packets for participants;
• attend all lectures and write brief summary of sessions for newsletters;
• make all arrangements for trip, including contacting Chinese host organization, making flight reservations and purchasing tickets, securing visas for trip participants, preparing itinerary of meetings, briefing book and other materials as needed, preparing information on USCPF and gifts for meetings, and preparing a report on program for funding organization.

• Weekly news article summaries on USCPF webpage - The program associate reviews American and Asia newspapers and media sources and prepares brief summaries of important stories relating to U.S.-China relations each week. Once approved, the stories are formatted in HTML and posted on the webpage every Friday by the program associate.

• Webpage maintenance - The program associate also updates the pages of the USCPF website as needed to reflect recent events, changes in staff, etc.

• News article database - The program associate updates the Foundation’s news article database with cite information from all articles found in leading American newspapers relating to China and U.S.-China relations.

• Newsletter - The program associates conduct independent research on issues in U.S.-China relations to produce articles for the newsletter. The publications specialist/program associate edits and formats the newsletter using Microsoft Publisher software, and works with the editor to make changes. The publications specialist/program associate contacts the printer regarding the specifications of the newsletter and prepares the newsletter for printing. Upon receipt from the printer, the publications specialist/program associate prepares the newsletter for mailing and mails it. The publications specialist/program associate updates the mailing list for the newsletter as needed on a Microsoft Access database. The publications specialist/program associate also uses HTML language to post the newsletter content on the USCPF website.

• Lecture Notes - The publications specialist/program associate takes notes at USCPF lectures and prepares summaries of events for publication as Lecture Notes. Formatting is done in Microsoft Publisher and/or Adobe InDesign. The publications specialist/program associate handles printing and mailing of the Lecture Notes using the newsletter mailing list.

• General office duties - The program associate performs general office work including producing and mailing correspondence using Windows 95 and Microsoft Word, answering phones and taking messages. Other office duties may include monthly cash reports and staff time sheets.
